We have already paid a terrible- terrible price for America to have the bomb. We must stand up and be counted and never, never, ever let this happen again.

I would like to see free health care for victims of nuclear testing.

Some six to seven thousand people have received a pittance for tumors that they got as a result of nuclear testing.

Many of these people have died and tens of thousands of people in Utah have chronic degenerative diseases especially of the thyroid and teeth.

Many of the second and third generation victims of nuclear testing have learning disabilities.

There has never been any compensation ever for these wrongful deaths and other diseases inflicted by nuclear testing.

I would like to see the Utah State Legislature, under the doctrine of State's Rights, send a firm demand to the federal government of the United States of America to compensate these victims.

Utah’s citizens and Mormons in particular are noted for their patriotism. 

In 1951 when the tests started very few were even suspicious and even fewer thought to protest

the regular occurrences of fallout on their communities. Most of the people who lived there were Mormons.

Tens of Thousands of Mormons were in the way, at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

THEY TRUSTED THE GOVERNMENT

Incredibly, residents were told by the Government that there was ABSOLUTELY NO DANGER 

when the radioactive clouds passed over sleepy little towns like Cedar City, Utah. These people 

could have been moved. Instead they were lied to, and systematically poisoned by the government of 

the United States of America, who treated them as unwitting HUMAN GUINEA PIGS.

Babies were given milk from cows fed on poisoned grass. 

Thousands of children were subjected to radioactive iodine and later developed 

Thyroid Diseases and various cancers.

Up to TWENTY PERCENT of the male Victims of the Bomb were sterilized by the radiation or fallout. 

The other eighty percent run the risk of passing genetic mutations to their offspring. 

The Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) always said that the Blasts and the Fallout were harmless. 

So why did they always wait until the wind blew towards Utah? 

They, the AEC knew the risks and minimized those risks by sending the radioactive clouds over the least 

densely populated areas… Southern Utah.

THE EFFECTS OF RADIATION

Victims of the BOMB have experienced many non-cancerous problems from their exposure such as bone and muscle deterioration, premature cardiovascular and neurological problems, auto-immune deficiency syndromes, sterility, anemia, and dental problems are as common as, or more common than the cancers.

The most pervasive problem experienced is some form of non-cancerous Thyroid Disease not tumors as the government would have you believe.

We know many of the cancers associated with radiation exposure. The most common are leukemia, lymphoma, cancers of the bladder, bone, colon, lung, throat and kidney. The government has offered a one time stipend payment to a few of these victims.

Victims with non-cancerous problems in these organs exist in almost the same, or slightly elevated numbers.  These people have never received any form of medical care or compensation for their injuries.

According to NARS, about Twenty Percent of the Victims of the BOMB have experienced miscarriages, stillborn children or children with some form of physical or mental problem.  Some of these problems have moved into the next generation further VICTIMIZING subsequent generations of  U.S. citizens.

A Commentary on Compensation to Victims for Acts of the U.S. Government’s Atomic/Nuclear Bomb Testing

These acts were knowingly and intentionally perpetrated on citizens of the United States of America by the Federal Government. These victims had no warning of the risks to them and their descendants. The Government knew the risks and covered them up. Victims were assured at the time that they were completely safe.

TOKEN PAYMENTS TO 'some' DOWNWINDERS

The Act specifies a payment of $50,000 to an individual who was physically present in one of the affected areas downwind of the Nevada Test Site during a period of atmospheric nuclear testing, and later contracted a specified compensable disease.

As of October, 2001, the DOJ website provides the following summary of Downwinder claims.

Say a Victim of the Bomb has five surviving children. Under this plan The victim's surviving children will receive $10,000 each, someday, hopefully, maybe.

Compare this to compensation offered by the Federal Government to victims of the

9/11 terrorist attacks

Keep in mind that these are acts which the Federal Government had little or no direct responsibility for. The victims of these acts are generally civilians but are being compensated as if they were public safety officers who were killed while on duty. I do not wish to take anything away from these victims or their surviving families. I do wish to seek just compensation for Downwinders as opposed to the so called compassionate payment which only 69% of them have received.

Victims of Sept 11^th will receive $250,000 each plus an additional $100,000 for a surviving spouse, and an additional $100,000 for each surviving child. If my father had been killed by terrorists instead of by the government, my fathers surviving children would receive $150,000 each for which they would have been paid by now.

SO: Parent killed by U.S. Gov. you get: $10,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice. (maybe) Parent killed by Al-Quieda Terrorists you get: $150,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice.

The government does not “owe” the 9/11 people anything but is paying out almost $500 million out of compassion. The extent of the governments compassion for victims it created and has responsibility for is only 1/15^th of its “compassion” for the 9/11 victims.

The government does absolutely “owe” the Downwinders compensation because of its deliberate premeditated acts against the Mormon People of  Southern Utah.

WHERE IS THE JUSTICE IN THIS?

Victims Of The Bomb deserve a written and televised apology from the government and the complete truth about the nuclear era. 

Victims Of The Bomb deserve justice, in the form of ongoing FREE and adequate health care and, realistic compensation be provided to those exposed. Also the creation of a comprehensive Atomic Victims Bill that not only includes cancers, but common non-cancerous illnesses on a presumptive basis and eliminates dose reconstruction requirements and the 2 year residency requirement for Downwinders on the presumptive basis that one exposure is too much.

Victims of the Bomb demand that compensation to Downwinders be equal to, or exceed that of

uranium miners, uranium millers, ore transporters, and onsite participants, including veterans.

What has the GOVERNMENT done to mitigate the damage they have caused?

NOTHING! The VICTIMS OF THE BOMB have been left by the government to suffer and die.

Their children and grandchildren have born the financial, the emotional, and the genetic costs.

According to the NRC or Nuclear Regulatory Commission: “low doses (of Radiation) tend to damage or alter the genetic code (DNA) of irradiated cells. High doses can kill so many cells that tissues and organs are damaged immediately... The higher the radiation dose, the sooner the effects of radiation will appear… “
